Buena Vista Dessert Wine

The Buena Vista Dessert Wine reveals luscious aromas of dried fig, caramel, orange zest, and honey. Its sweet palate features candied apricot, toasted almond, and vanilla, finishing richly and indulgently.

Before there were vineyards in every valley north of San Francisco, before Napa and Sonoma were household names before there was a California wine world at all, there was Buena Vista. Founded in 1857, and spanning from Sonoma and into Napa, Buena Vista is California’s first premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Today, the legend has been re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset.

This rustic spiced pear galette is a cozy, festive dessert perfect for holiday gatherings. The warm cinnamon and nutmeg complement the luscious sweetness of the pears, while the rich, honeyed notes of Buena Vista Dessert Wine enhance the caramelized crust and fruit, creating an indulgent and elegant pairing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3–4 tbsp ice water
  • 3 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar for sprinkling

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare the crust by cutting butter into flour and salt until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time until dough comes together. Chill 30 minutes.
  2. Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, toss pear slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and flour. Arrange in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold edges over the filling.
  4. Brush crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  5. Bake 35–40 minutes until crust is golden and pears are tender. Let cool slightly and serve with a glass of Buena Vista Dessert Wine.
