Pork Bao Buns

Soft, pillowy bao buns stuffed with savory, spiced pork are an irresistible treat for the holidays. The bold, layered flavors of blackberry, smoked meat, and violet in Wattle Creek Syrah Sonoma County 2019 pair beautifully with the rich, umami-packed pork and subtle sweetness of the buns, creating an elegant and festive fusion dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 small steamed bao buns (store-bought or homemade)
  • Pickled cucumbers or carrots, for garnish
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Sriracha or chili sauce, optional

Steps:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground pork until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Cook 2–3 more minutes until fragrant and fully coated.
  3. Steam or warm the bao buns according to package instructions.
  4. Fill each bun with a generous spoonful of pork mixture. Top with pickled vegetables, cilantro, and a drizzle of sriracha if desired.
  5. Serve immediately alongside a glass of Wattle Creek Syrah
