Korean Bulgogi Beef is sweet, savory, and packed with umami, featuring thinly sliced beef marinated in soy, garlic, ginger, and a touch of sugar. The 2023 Fortune Favors Petit Verdot pairs beautifully with this dish—its intense dark fruit, structured tannins, and hints of lavender and dark chocolate complement the rich, caramelized flavors of the beef. Together, they create a bold, layered pairing that balances the sweetness of the marinade with the wine’s depth and elegance.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef ribeye or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste), optional for heat
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil, for cooking
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Steps:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, green onions, and gochujang (if using).
  2. Add beef slices to the marinade and toss to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef in batches and cook 2–3 minutes per side, until caramelized and cooked through.
  4. Transfer to a serving dish, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and garnish with additional sliced green onions.
